Preparing Your Feet For A Fun Run
Here’s some tips on how to prepare for your race.
Preparing Your Feet: Training and preparation
If you’re training for a marathon, of course you’d be running a couple times a week to build your fitness and mileage. For a fun run you can afford to start training about three months before the race. If you’re walking, daily walks will help improve your fitness prior to the race. Remember to warm up before your run and stretch afterwards.
Hydrate
Before, during and after the race make sure you’ve had plenty of water which will not only keep you hydrated but will help prevent muscle cramps during the race.
Wear supportive shoes
The right shoes for preparing your feet are very important. They need to fit from toe to heel and have the right level of support. Most sport stores can help you choose the right shoes for your feet. You can also come and visit us at Brighton Road Podiatry. We select the best Orthotic to meet your needs. Our Custom Orthotics are manufactured in house using the Swiss made Orthema 3D scanning technology. Brighton Road Podiatry Clinic has purchased this equipment as we believe it is the best orthotic system available for the majority of clients. Our Podiatrists have full control and oversight over the scanning, prescription, manufacture and fitting. We can provide our EVA Orthotics within 24 hours (or same day if needed) – perfect for country clients.
The right pair of socks
Avoid wearing socks made from synthetic material such as polyester or acrylic. Instead, wear socks made from 100% cotton or merino wool.
Visit your podiatrist
If you’re experiencing any discomfort or pain in your feet, toes or ankles make sure you visit your podiatrist to have your feet checked. Your podiatrist can also give you tips and advice on how to protect your feet during the run.
