Fungal Infections

Few things are more uncomfortable, and embarrassing, than a fungal infection that’s set up camp between your toes, around your foot or in your toenails. Unfortunately, fungal infections are a common complaint, but help is just a call away with Brighton Road Podiatry.

Athlete’s Foot

Also known as tinea, Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection of the skin. If you’ve noticed a red, scaly rash on your feet, peeling between your toes, or even small blisters, chances are that you’ve caught tinea. A persistent itching and stinging are a give-away too. Fungal infections thrive in warm, moist environments, so the gym room, sauna or communal change-rooms are an ideal space for it to spread, hence the aptly named Athlete’s Foot.

Toenail fungal infections

Since fungal infections love nesting in warm, moist shoes, they can attack the toenail bed and feast on your nail’s keratin, leading to discolouration and thickening of the nail. Over time the nail will split or completely deteriorate, taking your confidence with it. Rest assured, we can not only treat the infection, but also restore damaged nails through a Keryflex application to create an artificial nail, if needed.

  1. Firstly, keep your feet dry and let them breathe in open shoes.
