Sever’s disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis, is a common form of heel pain experienced by children and adolescents. It’s caused by overuse and excessive strain on the growth plate within the calcaneus (heel bone).

Pain at the back and side of the heel bone is often worse after physical activity that involve running and explosive movements. Symptoms can affect both heels and in severe cases can cause limping.

Treatment can range from stretching of the calf and achilles to custom orthotics to protect the heel, or just lots of rest.

Our team of qualified podiatrists will be able to diagnose and treat Sever’s disease in order to reduce pain and help maintain activity levels as much as possible.
